Short description of project idea : 
Modern chemical industry has usually already quite well-developed process control at factory level. Despite of this, modern factory acquires huge amount of other data from various other information sources such as resource and energy consumption, environmental monitoring, storage flow, customer demand, etc. The biggest challenge is to find the relevant real-time information for different decision-making situations. Deeper integration of all the data being collected as well as further integration throughout the value chain is the task for the future factories. Available data from factory automation system can be combined with data collected by the parallel, if necessary, temporary wireless systems. Moreover, factories of chemical industry are typically operating in industrial parks comprising of wide range of supporting operators. New tools and technologies are needed to reach adequate and synchronized cross-company control and management of industrial symbiosis. In all this, interaction with surrounding society is essential as well. Data mining technologies with improved respond time together with fast wireless information transmission from various sectors of the factories play crucial role when designing full process control taking into account supply of raw materials, energy, emissions to environment, end users' needs, traffic and logistics etc. Symbiosis of various actors within the value chain can be piloted by including several industrial parks, where chemical industry place the biggest role.

Description: 
Main objective is to implement new technologies for improved data monitoring and integration of available data into one system to efficient holistic management of the overall operations in the future factory, chemical industry especially in focus. Technological objectives: - Improved data monitoring and datamining systems - New analytical methods including advanced sampling and sensor technology - 5G technology for fast data transfer Benefits - industrial symbiosis to improve resource efficiency (e.g. utilization of waste streams) - improvement of energy and water consumption in industrial areas - reduced costs -support for decision-making taking into account overall factory operations in symbiosis with other actors across the value chain and surrounding eco-system.

operational and manufacturing data management
Description: 
One of the biggest challenges in chemistry industry is managing operational and manufacturing data. The industries have to keep up high quality and same time they have to keep up safety and respond to environmental concerns. Rising concerns of cyber-security threats and malicious attacks makes this all even more challenging. Huge amount of heterogeneous data is received from different sources, and to make it beneficial, it must be authenticated, verified and transformed into valuable information. This data management process demands deep understanding of the chemistry, maintenance and ICT. This project aims at bringing the key players of all these sectors together.

Centria University of Applied Science
Description: 
Centria's role is to perform demonstations and develop application. Centria offers it's testbeds (5G test network and Chemplant) for usage of project partners. Chemplant –pilot plant can be used for example research mixture and precipitation phenomena, mass transport related phenomena and mechanical processes. Chemplant enables study of phenomena and processes in different ranges from laboratory environment to pilot plant scale. Pilot plant operation is supported by extensive laboratory environment, where process can be followed throughout its different phases. Chemical phenomenas can be researched and measured in laboratory scale and process course followed with analytics. In addition, laboratory environment can be used to follow the pilot phase phenomena. Centria field test environment is developed for needs of 5G testing purposies during Tekes funded national Cognitive Radio Trial Environment projects (CORE, CORE+ and CORE++). CORE++ consortium includes industry partners (Anite, Bittium, Nokia, PehuTec, Fairspectrum, Finnish Defence Forces), research organizations (Centria, VTT, CWC, TUAS) and FICORA (Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority). Centria field test environment is meant for companies, developers and researchers to test new products and innovations in mobile networks and allows to carry out experiments with large-scale tests. Centria team has a long experience deploying new technologies in this environment and it has been used for several technology, algorithm, testing tool, system, and application level demonstrations.

Description: 
The Kokkola Industry Park (KIP) brings real world test bed for for the future factories studies. KIP is the most significant concentration of the chemical industry in Northern Europe, in which a number of the top companies in the chemical and metal industry operate. The area contains 15 industrial operators, as well as more than 70 service companies. The export value of the industrial park is worth EUR 1.1 billion a year, and the companies on site directly employ 2 200 people.

Description: 
When process sensing and process control are performed at the factory level there are needs of low latencies and robust connectivity. This brings demand of seamless integration of the IoT and Cloud and need for 5G connectivity. The partners should be able to provide edge computing applications for pre-processing, aggregating and scoring IoT data. There are need for running complex analytics on the data collecting from processes and plants.
